Importing Geometry to Mesh
Use a mesh Import node () to import the Component’s geometry directly to a meshing sequence. If the geometry intersects an imported mesh, use a Union operation to unite the two.
Figure 8-25: The geometry of a block is imported to a mesh that already contains the imported STL mesh of a vertebra. The front boundaries of the block are hidden for visibility.
Import
In the Source list, choose Geometry sequence and select a geometry sequence from the Geometry list below.
From the Face mesh generation list, select Free triangular (default) to import a triangle mesh, generated in the background by the Free Triangular operation. Specify the size of the triangles using the Size list, ranging from Extremely fine to Extremely coarse (default Normal). Select the Resolve narrow domain regions check box (default selected) to let the surface mesh be finer close to a thin region in the domain. Clear the check box to let the element size be determined by the Size setting only.
Select Visualization to import a visualization mesh of the geometry. Specify the level of detail for the triangulation using the Detail list, ranging from Fine to Coarse (default Normal).
To import a geometry sequence, click the Import button.
Entity Selections
The sections Domain Selections, Boundary Selections, Edge Selections, and Point Selections appear after building the Import operation. The selections are generated during the import based on selections defined in the source. In the Name column, the name of each selection appears. For import of geometry to mesh, each name is by default the name of the selection in the original geometry that appears in the Source in geometry column. Select the name in the Name column to highlight the selection in the Graphics window. You can change the name of a selection by editing the corresponding table entry in the Name column. Note that not all of these selection sections are available for all space dimensions.
The selections can be used to specify entity selections in operations and attributes within the same meshing sequence and, if the mesh defines the component’s geometric model, for physics and material settings. For more information about the component’s geometric model, see The Mesh Node.
