Rack and Pinion
Use the Rack and Pinion node for 2D and 3D components to create a connection between a Spur Rack and a Spur Gear, or between a Helical Rack and aHelical Gear in such a way that at the contact point they have no relative motion along the line of action. The remaining displacements and rotations of the rack and pinion are independent of each other.
If the Line contact option is chosen in the Contact model, one additional constraint is added at the contact point to restrict the relative rotation about a line joining the rack and pinion centers.
When Friction is included on a rack and pinion node, frictional forces in the plane perpendicular to the line of action are added on the rack and pinion.
Gear Selection
Select Rack and Pinion from the list of racks and gears. You can select any Spur Rack, or Helical Rack in the Rack field and any Spur Gear, or Helical Gear in the Pinion field that is defined for the model.
See Gear Pair for the following settings — Sketch, Line of Action, Contact Model, Gear Pair Properties, and Contact Force Computation.
In this node, there is no setting for Configuration in the Contact Model section since it is possible to have either Point Contact or Line Contact independent of the configuration,
