Theory for Spot Welds
Introduction
In this section, the theory for the Spot Welds node in the Shell interface is presented.
Spot welds are modeled using a mesh independent approach. A spot weld is defined by its location on the destination boundary. This is the boundary on which the equations are formed. The connection is created inside a circle defined by the nugget diameter.
The location of the spot weld does not have to be exactly on the destination boundary. The given point is projected to the nearest location on the destination boundary.
