Electric Field, Unidirectional

In the Model Builder click Electric Field (ewbe) .

In the Settings window for 3D Plot Group, change the Label text field to Electric Field, Unidirectional.

In the Model Builder expand Electric Field, Unidirectional and click Electric Field .

From the Settings window for Multislice locate the Multiplane Data section.

Find the X-planes subsection and in the Planes text field, enter 0.

Find the Y-planes subsection and in the Planes text field, enter 0.

Click to expand the Quality section. From the Smoothing list, select Everywhere. This will make the plot smooth across the core-cladding interfaces.

Right-click Electric Field and choose Deformation .

In the Settings window for Deformation, locate the Expression section and in the z-component text field, enter patcheval(ewbe.normE,2). The patcheval operator makes the field plot smooth across the deformed interfaces.

Click the Plot button and click the Zoom Extents button in the Graphics toolbar to make the plot fit the Graphics window. The plot below shows how the light couples from the excited waveguide to the unexcited one (same as Figure 19 in Results and Discussion).
Electric Mode Fields
By default, plots of the mode fields for the numeric ports are generated, together with annotations of the effective mode indices. Step through the plot groups from Electric Mode Field, Port 1 (ewbe) to Electric Mode Field, Port 4 (ewbe), to inspect the mode fields and the effective mode indices.
However, first revert back to the default values for the Surface plot under Electric Mode Field, Port 1 (ewbe).

Select Surface 1 under plot group Electric Mode Field, Port 1 (ewbe) .

In the Settings window for Surface, click Replace Expression in the upper-right corner of the Expression section. From the menu, navigate to and select the variable Model > Component 1 > Electromagnetic Waves, Beam Envelopes, Unidirectional > Boundary mode analysis > ewbe.normEbm_1 - Tangential boundary mode electric field norm - V/m.

Locate the Coloring and Style section. From the Color table list, choose Rainbow > RainbowLight. This shows the mode field for Port 1.

Next, select plot group Electric Mode Field, Port 2 (ewbe) , to see the mode field of Port 2.

Then, select plot group Electric Mode Field, Port 3 (ewbe) , to see the mode field of Port 3.

Finally, select plot group Electric Mode Field, Port 4 (ewbe) , to see the mode field of Port 4.
