In the Model Builder, click Study 1 .

In the Settings window for Study, change the Label text field to Study, Unidirectional.
Step 1: Boundary Mode Analysis
Now analyze the four lowest modes. The first two modes will be symmetric. Since the waveguide cross section is square, there will be one mode polarized in the z direction and one mode polarized in the y direction. Mode three and four will be antisymmetric, one polarized in the z direction and the other in the y direction.

In the Model Builder under Study, Unidirectional , click Step 1: Boundary Mode Analysis .

In the Settings window for Boundary Mode Analysis, locate the Study Settings section, select the checkbox for the Desired number of modes text field and enter 4 in the associated text field. This finds the four lowest modes.

In the Search for modes around the shift setting, select the checkbox and enter nco in the associated text field to search for the modes with effective index close to that of the waveguide cores.

In the Mode analysis frequency text field, enter f0.

To compute only the boundary mode analysis step, right-click Step 1: Boundary Mode Analysis and choose Compute Selected Step .
