Materials
Not all material properties have been defined in the physics features. It is convenient to define the material properties in a porous material. Since both interfaces can access these materials, duplicate definitions, such as porosity, are avoided.
Porous Material: Lower Layer

In the Model Builder window, under Component 1 (comp1) right-click Materials and choose More Materials > Porous Material .

In the Settings window for Porous Material, type Porous Material: Lower Layer in the Label text field.
Renaming nodes is optional. It is mainly for clarity and helps to quickly understand the model.

Locate the Phase-Specific Properties section. Click the Add Required Phase Nodes  button.
This adds the required subnodes to define the fluid properties and solid matrix properties.

Go to the Fluid 1 subnode. Locate the Material contents section and in the table enter rhof for the Density.

Click on the Solid 1  subnode and locate the Solid Properties section. Enter 1-poro_1 in the Volume fraction text field.

In the Material Contents section, in the table enter rhob for the Density.
Porous Material: Upper Layer

In the Model Builder right-click Porous Material: Lower Layer and select Duplicate .

In the Settings window for Porous Material, type Porous Material: Upper Layer in the Label text field.

In the Settings window, under Domain Selection, select Domains 2 and 4 (upper layer) only.

Expand the Porous Material: Upper Layer node, then click Solid 1 .

In the Settings window, locate the Solid Properties section. In the θs text field, type 1-poro_2.
All other material properties remain identical to the ones defined for the lower layer. This completes the setup of the physics.
