Geometry
The modeling domain is made up of the two permeable soil layers, each of which is represented by a rectangular domain in 2D axisymmetry. Add an additional layer to the right boundary to define an Infinite Element domain. It performs a coordinate scaling to the selected domain such that boundary conditions on the outside of the infinite element layer are effectively applied at a very large distance. Therefore unwanted effects of artificial boundary conditions on the region of interest are suppressed.

In the Model Builder right-click Geometry 1  and add a Rectangle . This represents the lower layer of soil.

In the Settings window for Rectangle locate the Size and Shape section.

In the Width text field type 1.5.

In the Height text field type 0.9.

Under Position in the z text field, type -1.3.

Expand the Layers section, select the Layers to the right checkbox, clear the Layers on bottom checkbox and type 0.25 in the Thickness text field.
These additional layers to the right of the geometry will be used to define Infinite Element Domains.

Under the Geometry node right-click on Rectangle 1  and choose Duplicate ().

In the Settings window for Rectangle locate the Size and Shape section.

In the Height text field type 0.4.

Under Position in the z text field, enter -0.4.
To finish the model geometry, add a point on the top boundary to make the pond’s outer rim.

Right-click Geometry 1 . Go to More Primitives and select Point .

In the Settings window for Point locate the Point section. In the r text field, type 0.25.

Click Build All Objects .
