Squeeze-Film Damper
Sometimes, to increase the overall damping in the rotating machinery, bearings are extended with squeeze-film dampers. These components provide damping by squeezing of the lubricant film. You can use this option to approximately model the effect of squeeze-film dampers on the overall dynamics of the rotor. In this model, the damper is represented by its equivalent damping coefficients obtained by analytically solving the Reynolds equations for a short length approximation. This model also affects the critical speed of the rotor assembly.
