The Two-Phase Flow, Level Set, Brinkman Equations Interface
This Multiphysics interface was designed to track the interface between two immiscible fluids within a porous medium as for example when simulating resin transfer molding.
The tracking is done using the Level Set equation, and the velocity field for this equation can be calculated from the Brinkman Equations.
The immiscible fluids can be incompressible or compressible. The interface is available in 2D, 2D axial symmetric, and 3D.
When adding the Two-Phase Flow, Level Set, Brinkman Equations multiphysics interface, a Brinkman Equations and a Level Set interface are added to the Model Builder. In addition, the multiphysics coupling feature Two-Phase Flow, Level Set is created automatically under the Multiphysics node (see The Two-Phase Flow, Level Set Coupling Feature in the CFD Module User’s Guide). The Wetted Wall coupling feature is also added, but with empty selection. Other Wetted Wall multiphysics coupling features and the Interior Wetted Wall coupling feature can be added when needed to model walls. For more information about these coupling features read The Wetted Wall Coupling Feature and The Interior Wetted Wall Coupling Feature in the CFD Module User’s Guide.
Simulations using the Two-Phase Flow, Level Set, Brinkman equations interface are always time-dependent since the position of an interface is almost always dependent of its history.
Note that this multiphysics coupling does not include capillary effects arising inside the porous structure itself as these effects can be neglected for relatively high flow velocities. If these effects should be taken into account, use the Multiphysics interface The Multiphase Flow in Porous Media Interface which couples Darcy’s Law with a Phase transport equation including capillary pressure and relative permeabilities.
