The Corona Discharge Interface
The Corona Discharge interface () is used to model the transport region of a corona discharge where only one type of charge carrier is present (that is, positive or negative ions depending on the polarity of the corona). The interface employs a simplified charge transport model combined with electrostatics to approximate the charge density and electrostatic field in stationary corona discharges. This model does not include the ionization layer of corona discharges, instead utilizing an approximate boundary condition. Additionally, electron dynamics are not solved in this approach.
When a predefined Corona Discharge interface is added from the Plasma branch () of the Model Wizard or Add Physics windows, Electrostatics and Charge Transport interfaces are added to the Model Builder. In addition, the Multiphysics Couplings node is added, which automatically includes the multiphysics coupling features Space Charge Density Coupling and Potential Coupling. The Electrode multiphysics feature is not added by default but this feature is fundamental in modeling the corona discharge.
When the Charge Transport interface () is added, these default nodes are also added to the Model BuilderTransport Properties, No Flux, and Initial Values. Then, from the Physics toolbar, add other nodes that implement, for example, a source terms and boundary conditions.
When the Electrostatics interface () is added, these default nodes are also added to the Model BuilderCharge Conservation, Zero Charge, and Initial Values. Then, from the Physics toolbar, add other nodes that implement, for example, a ground electrode.
