About Shape Optimization
Shape optimization involves techniques that use mesh deformation to change the geometry. Two kinds of optimization are available:

Transformation (translation, scaling, and rotation)
•
Boundary deformation

PDE-based regularization

Polynomial-based regularization
Shape optimization of shells is typically not associated with any domains, but in all other situations a PDE-based approach is used to smoothen the deformation in the interior of domains.
