The Mirror Symmetry feature (

) can be added from the model tree under
Component using the
Shape Optimization context menu. The feature works on domains and boundaries such that any
Free Shape Domain,
Transformation,
Free Shape Shell, or
Polynomial Shell feature will have its displacement variables extended (or overwritten) by the
Mirror Symmetry selection. The feature can thus be used to reduce design freedom relative to have a larger selection for (in example) a
Free Shape Domain feature. The
Mirror Symmetry feature will only work in conjunction with features that have the same selection dimension.
Choose whether the Point on plane of reflection should be
Automatic or
User defined. The
Automatic option will use a point on a flat plane that is adjacent to the feature as well as a
Density Model. Similarly, the
Normal vector to plane of reflection can either be
Automatic or
User defined. The
Automatic option will use the normal vector of a flat plane that is adjacent to both the
Mirror Symmetry and the source feature. When both the
Mirror Symmetry feature and the source feature have a 3D boundary selection, the
Automatic option will look for planer edges adjacent to both features and use the cross product between the vector between the end points of the edge and the normal vector of the
Mirror Symmetry selection. If the latter is not planar, a
User defined value must be provided.
