Gear Geometries
The Multibody Dynamics Module has a built-in geometry library for creating different types of gears. The gear geometries are available for 3D and 2D models. You can use them to build a gear tooth, a single gear, a pair of gears, or a gear train.
All the gear geometries are parameterized. You can vary input parameters to customize the gear tooth or gear blank shape.
To avoid building an invalid geometry, there are several checks on the input parameters. The set of input parameters must result in a valid gear geometry. In case of invalid set of parameters, an appropriate error message is displayed to adjust the specific parameter.
The geometries of the gear tooth cross sections are as follows:
•
Gear Tooth Geometry (External: 2D)
•
Gear Tooth Geometry (Internal: 2D)
•
Rack Tooth Geometry (2D)
The gear geometries in 2D are as follows:
•
Spur Gear Geometry (External: 2D)
•
Spur Gear Geometry (Internal: 2D)
•
Spur Rack Geometry (2D)
The gear geometries in 3D are as follows:
•
Spur Gear Geometry (External: 3D)
•
Spur Gear Geometry (Internal: 3D)
•
Helical Gear Geometry (External: 3D)
•
Helical Gear Geometry (Internal: 3D)
•
