Discharge-Induced Effects
The Electric Discharge module seamlessly integrates with other products in the COMSOL product suite, including with those for electromagnetics, structural mechanics, and fluid dynamics, enabling users to explore the multiphysics effects often associated with electric discharges. To simplify the modeling of discharge-induced effects, several built-in variables are available. These variables can be directly used in any variable expression and they can also be selected from corresponding features is other physics interfaces.
Joule Heating
The variable Qj (SI unit: W/m3) is the Joule heating power which is defined as
where Jc the conduction current density. The variable can be selected from a Heat Source feature in a heat transfer interface.
Electrohydrodynamic Force
The variable F (SI unit: N/m3) is the electrohydrodynamic (EHD) force which is defined as
The variable can be selected from a Volume Force feature in a fluid flow interface.
