Loads
Loads can be applied at an arbitrary location in the through-thickness direction. Placing loads on the correct side of the shell is particularly important in two cases:
•
When the loads act in the plane of the shell, since a tangential traction on the top or bottom surface also creates a moment around the midsurface.
•
When the shell is thick and curved, since the loaded area will then differ significantly between the two sides.
By using the settings in the
Through-Thickness Location
section present in various load features, you can take these effects into account.
