Add a Geometry Sampling node (

) by right-clicking a
Definitions node in a
Component and choosing it from the
Surrogate Model Sampling submenu. It is also available on the
Definitions ribbon toolbar, from the
Surrogate Model Sampling section. Select the sample method and set its subproperties to specify the desired geometry sampling method for sampling quantities of interest on this component.
Specify the sampling method using the Sample method list. Available methods are
Geometric entity selection (the default),
Grid, and
Mesh interpolation. Depending on the selected sampling method, various settings are available. For all methods, specify a frame to evaluate the coordinates in from the
Frame list:
Mesh,
Geometry,
Material, or
Spatial coordinate frames. The default is the
Material frame, and this rarely needs to be changed; see
About Frames for more information about frames.
The default geometric entity selection evaluates the quantities of interest on all the vertices in the selection of the computational mesh. The selection under Geometric Entity Selection can be used to specify a subset of the geometry to sample on. Here you specify the geometric entity level and the selection of geometric entities on that level for which to sample on.
Select Grid from the
Sample method list to sample on a uniform grid. For each coordinate of the frame the
Minimum (default is 0) and
Maximum (default is 1) can be used to set the lower and upper bounds of the grid, respectively. The
Resolution setting denotes the number of points into which each dimension is uniformly discretized; the total number of grid points will be the product of the resolutions of all dimensions. The defaults are 1000 in 1D, 100 in 2D, and 30 in 3D.
To sample on a different mesh than the computational mesh, select Mesh interpolation from the
Sample method list and then select the desired mesh from the
Mesh list. This method can be used, for example, to sample on a coarser mesh to save disk memory.
