License Management Tools
The FlexNet License Manager Software
Depending on your region and operating system, any of the above license types may require that the FlexNet license manager software is installed and started before running a COMSOL product. The FlexNet license manager is bundled with any COMSOL installation. You can view the contents of the license file (license.dat) that you received from your COMSOL representative by opening it with a text editor. If the file contains a line starting with the word SERVER, the FlexNet license manager is required. For a Floating Network License, the purpose of the FlexNet license manager software is to count the number of concurrent users and to give an error message if the number of users exceeds the licensed number of concurrent users. Depending on your region and operating system, the FlexNet license manager software might also be needed for a Single User License. In that case, the purpose of the license manager software is to lock the COMSOL session to a COMSOL authorized computer. See License Manager Installation on Windows for more information. The COMSOL software products and the license manager can be installed in any order, except if you are installing based on a port number and hostname. In that case, the license manager software needs to be installed and started before installing COMSOL.
We recommend that you use the license manager bundled with COMSOLĀ 6.2. Using a license manager bundled with earlier COMSOL versions might work, but we recommend that you use the license manager from the latest COMSOL version. Use the license manager from the latest COMSOL version also for earlier COMSOL versions if possible. See the www.comsol.com/system-requirements for detailed requirements.
Dongle Hardware Lock
Depending on your region and operating system, any of the above license types might require a dongle (hardware lock). If you have received a dongle to use with COMSOL, please refer to instructions given to you by your COMSOL representative.
