Other Dimensionless Numbers
A number of other dimensionless numbers are useful for describing fluid flows on the microscale. These numbers are summarized in Table 2-3.
Bond number/ Eötvös number
Symbol definitions: ρ is the fluid density, g is the body force acceleration (usually the acceleration due to gravity), L is the characteristic length scale for the problem, σ is the surface tension coefficient, μ is the fluid viscosity, v is the characteristic velocity, Kσ is the surface conductivity, KB is the bulk conductivity, λ is the mean free path, α is the thermal diffusivity (α=κ/(ρcp)), cp is the heat capacity at constant pressure, κ is the thermal conductivity, and T is the absolute temperature (ΔT is the characteristic temperature difference).
