The Forchheimer Drag subnode is available from the context menu (right-click the
Fluid and Matrix Properties parent node) or from the
Physics toolbar,
Attributes menu. While the drag of the fluid on the porous matrix in the basic Brinkman equations is proportional to the flow velocity, (Darcy’s law drag), the Forchheimer drag is proportional to the square of the fluid velocity. The latter term accounts for an inertial turbulent drag effect that comes into play for fast flows through large pores. Adding the Forchheimer term takes into account all drag contributions that the Ergun equation covers.
